We are very excited to announce three optional post-conference field trips.
(Detailed information about each field trip will be added in future updates).
FIELD TRIP 1:
Lacustrine gypsum microbialites: ancient and modern
Participants will visit a modern wetland characterized by extensive microbial mats undergoing lithification into sulfates, silicates, and carbonates, as well as Miocene gypsum microbialites formed in shallow lacustrine environments, both located in the province of Toledo.
Duration: 1 day (4 September).
Maximum number of participants: 22.
Leaders: Esther Sanz-Montero and Óscar Cabestrero (Complutense University of Madrid).
Price: 45 € (it includes the field guide and bus transport. It does not include lunch and drinks).
FIELD TRIP 2:
Cenozoic lacustrine and fluvial microbialites
Participants will visit various types of microbialites at the Zaragoza and Huesca provinces, formed in different carbonate environments from the Neogene in the Ebro Basin (2 days) and from the Quaternary in the Piedra River, including stromatolites (1 day).
Duration: 3 days (4-6 September).
Maximum number of participants: 15.
Leader: Concha Arenas and Cinta Osácar (University of Zaragoza).
Price: 405 € (it includes field guide and bus transport from Zaragoza to the field, and lunch and drinks during the fieldtrip, and accommodation and dinner for 1 night in Monasterio de Piedra. It does not include transport from Madrid to Zaragoza, nor accommodation and dinner for 1 night in Zaragoza).
FIELD TRIP 3:
Mesozoic siliciclastic, carbonate and evaporite coastal microbialites
Participants will visit different types of microbialites (MISS, stromatolites, oncoids, etc.) developed in siliciclastic, carbonate and evaporite coastal environments of the Upper Jurassic–Lower Cretaceous in the Cameros Basin (Soria and La Rioja provinces).
Duration: 3 days (4-6 September).
Maximum number of participants: 20.
Leaders: M. Isabel Benito (Complutense University of Madrid), I. Emma Quijada (University of Oviedo), and Pablo Suarez-Gonzalez (Complutense University of Madrid).
Price: 325 € (includes field guide, all transport, accommodation and meals).
